Rosemaire Thomasina (Sontag) McCluskey, age 83, of Somerset, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Wed. April 16, 2025, at Glenhaven nursing home in Glenwood City. She had recently been admitted to hospice for late-stage cancer diagnosis.
Rosemarie Thomasina (Sontag) McCluskey was born on February 4, 1942, in Stillwater, MN to Wiliam. and LaVina W. (Wieland) Sontag. She was an only child and suffered from illnesses early in her life.
She received her education at the Catholic grade school and public high school in Stillwater, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1960. Shortly after high school she attended a cosmetology beauty school near her home.
Rose met her future husband while a bridesmaid at her cousin’s wedding when a handsome groomsman caught her eye. They spent a few years getting to know each other. Visiting his family in NW Minnesota and a road trip out west to visit some of her family. Rose married David F. McCluskey on May 10, 1969, at St. Charles in Bayport, MN. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage until David’s passing on July 25, 2021. Rose and David had two daughters.
Rose worked part-time after the girls were older at a seasonal canning factory. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, puzzles, reading, listening to country and polka music, member of American Legion Post 111. She also enjoyed nature and watching the birds.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters Orvilla M Martell (Loren) and Frances Schaefer (Greg). One granddaughter Holly Lindsley (Steve Kuepper), four great grandchildren Shania and Star Trzcianko, Jaxson Korn and Cami Kuepper. As well as many cousins and dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Wednesday April 23, 2025, at Cullen Crea Funeral Home in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Thursday April 24, 2025, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Somerset, Wisconsin. Visitation for one hour prior to Mass at the Church.
