Sandra Joy Thompson, 83, of New Richmond, WI passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2025, in New Richmond, WI. She was born on March 30,1942 in Elgin, IL, the daughter of Vernon Francis Schabert Sr. and Pearl Lydia (Larson) Schabert. She married David Thompson on May 8, 1960, and together they had five sons and two daughters.
Sandra attended Elgin High School (IL) and Blackhawk Technical College Janesville, WI. She spent her working years as a LPN, home healthcare aid, and daycare teacher. She loved the theater arts and performed and directed many plays and musicals. Sandra was lovingly known by her grandchildren as “tutu” or “magic grandma.” She loved to sing karaoke, camp and fish, attend her children and grandchildren’s activities, make crafts, research family genealogies, and had a flair for making holidays special. She cherished the years she lived in Hawaii with family. Sandra loved “her Lion of Judah” and prayed daily over family, friends and the prayer requests she received.
Sandra is survived by a sister Vicky (Leonard) Kajmowicz and brothers Dale (Terri) and Keith Schabert. Her surviving children and grandchildren are: daughter Kimberly Thompson, children: Josh (Erin) and Adam (Kendra) Pearson; son Todd (Rianne), children – Teela, Troy, Ty, Keliana, and Tia; son Curt, children – Jessica and Amber (Dennis) Thiele; son Kent, children – Tanner, Oliva and Nick; son Brian – children Dutch; and daughter Loni (Brad) Perrin, children – Selah and Corbin. She leaves behind 19 great-grandchildren plus one arriving in July, and many beloved nieces and nephews and friends.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, a son Ty, ex-husband David Thompson, a sister and her husband Kay (Bill) Reinert, brother and his wife Terry (Debbie) Schabert, and brother Vernon Schabert.
A memorial service will be held on Monday June 2, 2025 at 1 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Richmond, WI. Flowers can be sent to the Church, and sympathy cards may be directed to the Cullen Crea Funeral Home. Interment Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
